Low oil pressure at idle after oil change

When I drive my Prius, everything seemed then the Low oil pressure light came on for about a second, and then went off. This happened a few times. I didn't notice any leak. I didn't notice it coming on after I reset the oil data. Could this have to do with the new oil making its way around the engine? First time I've changed my oil in this. Thanks.

Dec 16, 2011 · Did a search and all I found was a short thread on low oil pressure in an LS2. I have an LS1 out of a '98 Camaro Z28 with only 36,000 miles on it. It has been in the car 7 years now and has had what I consider excellent oil pressure. The oil pressure gauge needle generally runs straight up to just right of straight up at all RPM's from idle up. Now at idle when the truck is hot the oil pressure gauge is almost bottomed out and the Oil Light comes on. If I rev the engine it will jump back up. It appears that the threshold for the light to come on is 1000rpms.

I don't know if this translates to the 351C but my 302 windsor had the exact same sympton. I switched to a Wix Oil filter and picked up the extra 8 psi of oil pressure at idle that I wanted without having to change the idle speed. You can get Wix filters at Napa otherwise they seem hards to find. HTH.

May 14, 2009 · On my 05 Pathy, it indicates low oil pressure when the engine is warm, and the engine is running at idle speed. The needle reads below L on the gauge and the warning light turns on. When the engine (and oil) are cold, the needle reads midway between L and H. This has not changed. But as the car warms up, the idle oil pressure drops.

The thing to do is to NOT run the engine until you find and correct the low oil pressure problem. The fact that your oil pressure is now a little on the low side now is that you have probably damaged your engine by running it with low oil pressure. Lucky you didn't end up with a seized engine. You might be right. If the oil pressure test shows you have around 20-40 psi at idle, and over 40 psi under load, then the sending unit is bad, and you should replace it. If it shows you have no oil pressure, I'd start with the oil pump, remove the oil pan and check for a clogged screen, and might as well replace the pump while you are at it.

Jul 19, 2016 · The oil pressure should be between 30-40psi @ 2400rpm HOT. Remember that the guage in the car isn't a precision instrument, and that providing there's some reading on the guage it's acceptable for the light to flicker on at idle.

I forgot to mention, my oil level looked good after I initially saw the low pressure. I parked it, then drove it 30 minutes later and my idle oil pressure read 15-20psi and driving read 60-70 range. I also changed my AEM oil pressure sensor on the block, as the old one was leaking a couple weeks ago.

Mike I wouldn't be overly worried - if your gauge is telling the truth then clearly there is some wear but provided oil pressure picks up a bit straight after idle there's life in the old dog yet.

Jan 04, 2017 · Your low oil pressure sounds JUST like mine, it started off as a little noise at cold idle that would go away when warm and then eventually progressed over time to very LOUD tapping for about a minute until oil pressure could get up. I could get oil pressure up by revving the engine but it would submarine as soon as RPMS came back down.

I going to take apart my cluster and change out the stepper motor and see what my gauge at idle is I run the synthetic 5w 40 in the winter as well.
